Deaf/HH (Hard of Hearing) Ministry
T
he Deaf Ministry Program is designed
to assist those persons who are deaf or
hard of hearing and their families so they can
participate and grow in their Catholic faith.
The Church supports the deaf community
by providing an interpreted Mass, helping
them prepare to receive the Sacraments, and
instruction on the Catholic faith in American
Sign Language (ASL).
St. Bernadette Parish in Lakewood is home
for the Colorado Catholic Deaf Community
where a 10 a.m. Sunday Mass is celebrated
and interpreted in ASL. The parish then of-
fers weekly sacramental preparation, classes
on the faith, and social activities interpret-
ed in ASL for the community. A 12:30 p.m.,
Sunday Mass with an ASL Interpreter is also
celebrated at St. Thomas More Parish in
Centennial.
The deacon assists at the Mass, preaches
on occasion and teaches both sacramental
preparation and faith formation.
