Six Categories of Endowments

An endowment is a pool of money or assets donated to an organization
that is invested to generate income. The donated amounts cannot be
disbursed, while the investment returns can be and are used to fund
operations, scholarships, capital, or other purposes. A quasi-endowment
will allow the distribution of the donated amounts, too.
