Diaconal Ministries Resource Manual 21 Disaster Recovery Assistance Ministry W hen a local disaster strikes, be it a nat- ural disaster or one caused by human error, Catholic Charities responds with sup- plies and financial assistance, if available. The deacons involved in this ministry go to the scene and assist with the spiritual needs of the victims, first responders, and others involved. The team of deacons coordinating this minis- try build and maintain a roster of deacons able to assist in time of need. Fallen Away Catholics Ministry T here are many in our community who were raised Catholic but no longer prac- tice their faith. They may only attend Mass on Christmas, Easter or at weddings, funerals or other special events. All have stories and all have reasons for leaving. It is important to reach out to them, reconnect with them, an- swer their questions, and bring the baptized back home to the faith. The deacons in this ministry have helped individuals come back on a case by case basis, but now are doing research to begin a minis- try to provide individuals the tools to reach out and evangelize their f riends and family. i Deacon Mike Fletcher deaconmike1@live.com Deacon George Thierjung dulosgeorge@comcast.net i Deacon Peter Hung Phi Dang peterhpdang@yahoo.com Deacon Huan Nguyen stjohnbaptist123@outlook.com " " I tell you, in just the same way there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents.
