PROMISES OF THE ELECT
After receiving the exhortation of the Church, the elect rises and stands before the Archbishop
to declare his intention to be ordained to the office of the diaconate.
The elect promises to be consecrated for the Church's ministry,
to discharge the office of deacon with humility so as to assist the priestly order,
to preserve and proclaim the mystery of the faith, to deepen their spirit of prayer,
and to be conformed to the Lord's Body and Blood.
The elect will also take the promise of celibacy at this time.
Lastly, the elect goes to the Archbishop and,
kneeling before him, places his hands between those of the
Archbishop to make the promise of respect and obedience.

The rector of the seminary calls the candidate forward by name.
After listening to the testimony of the candidate's worthiness,
the Archbishop accepts the candidate for ordination.
After the following response, the congregation assents with applause.
Archbishop: Relying on the help of the Lord God
and our Savior Jesus Christ, we choose this,
our brother, for the Order of the Diaconate.
All: Thanks be to God.
